Thread Identification

Measuring pitch and sealing angles

Accurate thread identification requires combining caliper measurements of major diameters with thread pitch gauges. BSPP and BSPT fittings use a 55° Whitworth thread form, whereas JIC and ORFS connections rely on 37° flared and 90° o-ring face seal profiles respectively. Mismatched thread angles lead to premature joint failure under high impulse pressures.

When servicing imported machinery across UAE industrial plants, verify whether the port utilizes parallel threads requiring bonded seals or tapered threads requiring liquid sealant. Always cross-reference dash sizes with fractional inch equivalents before assembly.
